Law Firm Deploys Aerohive Networks Enterprise WLAN to Meet Demand from Mobile Attorneys
Sunnyvale, Calif. —December 21, 2011 — Aerohive Networks, the pioneer in controller-less Wi-Fi and cloud-enabled networking, today announced that the law firm Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP has implemented an Aerohive enterprise WLAN to replace its existing consumer-grade solution.
Founded in 1924, Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP, is a law firm with global reach known for solving challenging business problems and resolving sophisticated legal issues for many of the world’s largest companies.
In keeping with the explosion of mobile devices that have entered the workplace, Sutherland attorneys are increasingly relying on Wi-Fi-enabled devices to increase efficiency. When it became apparent that the firm’s consumer-grade wireless network couldn’t keep up with this mobile trend, they began looking for an enterprise solution to their network needs.
Sutherland has deployed Aerohive across all of its five offices around the country. The firm is using Aerohive’s 300 series HiveAPs.
Sutherland is managing its network using Aerohive's Cloud Services Platform - HiveManager Online. HiveManager Online is designed to make it cost-effective to start small and grow a network with no upfront capital costs beyond the access points. HiveManager Online is hosted within secure Tier IV SAS 70 Type II data centers, with scheduled backups and disaster-recovery capabilities, and it is accessible via a web browser on Windows, Linux, or Mac OSX.
Because Sutherland attorneys frequently congregate in on-site meeting rooms with visitors – sometimes opposing counsel and clients – they needed a very secure enterprise-class WLAN. Now with their Aerohive WLAN solution they have confidence that their network data can’t be breached by the parties seated directly across the table.
“We were starting to have a lot more clients coming into our offices and needing to use Wi-Fi, which was something that we couldn’t monitor or segment off,” said Matt Maddox, IT engineer, Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP. “We had to ensure their traffic wasn’t touching the corporate network for legal reasons and we needed the ability to set up separate secure networks for different groups wanting to use Wi-Fi within our law offices.”
“We decided we needed a reliable, flexible enterprise-grade wireless network that makes it easier to control the Wi-Fi environment,” said Maddox. “With Aerohive, we don’t have to worry if the controller goes down, which means we don’t have to worry about a loss of Wi-Fi connectivity.”
“Aerohive’s HiveManager Online was the key to a smooth wireless network deployment. Because all of the configuration takes place in HiveManager Online, we don’t even need to take the AP out of the box to set up the access points before shipping them off to other sites,” said Maddox. “We just ship them to their destination and they are plugged in once they arrive. The configuration and SSIDs have already been pushed out from HiveManager Online.”
